Our Story
We’re RockOrange. We’re a company built on loyalty. Loyalty to our clients. Loyalty to each other. What began as a friendship that started in grade school has evolved into a creative partnership that has brought together some of the most forward-thinking minds in the business. If we’ve learned anything in the last two decades, it’s that a brand is more than just a brand — it’s a living, breathing force with the power to connect and motivate people across the globe.
How do we build brands that can do all that? By starting from the ground up, literally. We’re out there, living life, exploring new cultures. We’re on the street talking to people. But we’re not just shootin’ the breeze. We’re listening. We’re staying connected in this ever-changing landscape. That’s where we find our inspiration — from the people we meet, the places we visit, the details of every day.
Then we take that inspiration and apply it to our clients’ businesses. We leverage the relationships we’ve made to create solid, fresh ideas. Ideas that will make an emotional connection with the right audience, at exactly the right moment.
How do we know when and where that exact “moment” is? We stay connected to emerging trends. We monitor how different audiences spend time … who’s listening to this, who’s watching that, who’s talking to whom and how, and who is going where…
We also realize that by the time you’re done reading this paragraph, consumers are on to something else. That’s why we create innovative programs that will enable you to speak to your core audience right when it matters most, in a way that will make them actually want to listen and respond to your call-to-action.
Together we’ll dig deep, address your objectives and help you create your vision.
At RockOrange, we dream, so you can dream even bigger.

Capabilities
Public Relations
The essence of PR is supporting the business goals of our clients by convincing media to report about them, thereby building third-party credibility and generating widespread exposure. We do this by staying abreast of trends to maximize our clients’ news potential, executing breakthrough campaigns rooted in research and driven by creativity, and guarding their reputations like they are our own.
Media Relations
High-impact media relations and outreach on a local, national and international level is based on in-depth understanding of client goals and positioning. RockOrange is effective at getting placements print, broadcast, and online coverage based on our extensive media contacts. We are relationship builders… out team of RockStars turns media contacts into long-time advocates of our clients… and we have the results to prove it.
Digital Media
The digital landscape can be daunting. With the proliferation of blogs and sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+, and a hundred other channels, the opportunities are limitless. We know the secrets to knock your digital media efforts out of the park and use e-mail campaigns, webcasts, websites, podcasts, text messaging, and RSS to get your message out.
Multi-Cultural Marketing
Communicating with people of various heritages presents a variety of challenges. What resonates and motivates one group may be less effective with others. Our RockStars have multi-cultural expertise to help clients develop effective tactics and messaging to reach and engage various U.S. and non-U.S. audiences.
Integrated Marketing Communications
This senior-level service is an integral part of all client programs, but we also provide an “infusion” of such counsel on a project basis. We help clients make smart decisions about how to spend marketing dollars; strategically leveraging and complementing advertising, stimulating partnerships and increasing profitability and shareholder value.
Creative Development and Visual Branding
Consistency is the key to successful creative design and visual branding. RockOrange develops memorable visuals that bring ideas to life and identity programs that differentiate your brand from its competitors. Bottomline: fresh, attractive and consistent content and design will help you effectively capture and keep consumer attention and build solid brand reputation.
Corporate Communications
Our RockStars have a vocabulary that’s not limited to 140 characters. In fact, our wordsmiths and grammarians include some of the best in the business. Whether helping senior executives to bring more power to their voice to wow an audience or crafting the precise words to soften an unwelcome internal communication, we coach clients on effective message development and delivery.
Promotions & Consumer Engagement
Attention-generating events create positive buzz and engage audiences – whether internal or external stakeholders. To make a big splash we plant the seeds for success with early media outreach… building awareness and generating momentum BEFORE our clients’ “go live” date. Past successes include: hotel/resort openings, cruise ship launches, press events, employee meetings, guerilla marketing, product launches, word-of-mouth (WOM) promotions, seminars, symposia, and trade shows.
Issues Management
Issues and crises situations have the potential to disrupt business operations and cause financial turmoil. Planning, training and time to consult with legal and PR counsel to determine a response strategy is a rare luxury. The internet has the ability to quickly inflate the smallest of incidents to a full-blown crisis. We are adept at delivering and implementing recovery campaigns to offset negative PR and re-build damaged reputations. And we offer on-site communication management to help you navigate crisis when it hits.
Media Training
Some clients are media savvy. They have been professionally trained and are naturals on camera and on the spot. Others can benefit from our expertise. Custom workshops, tailored for individuals or groups, provide focused, effective educational programs… whether coaching a C-Level executive before a keynote address, the CFO for the quarterly earnings call or training the entire management team to ensure a blockbuster annual convention.
Sponsorship
It can be argued that traditionally there’s been little value in sponsorships. Our RockStars have reached out to hundreds of companies, securing promotional partnerships on multiple levels for personalities, non-profits and traditional brands. Whether it’s a festival looking for backers, a television program looking to fill paid-spots or a celebrity chef looking for endorsements, we have the negotiation and experience to extract media value commensurate with our client’s investment.
Rockstars
You can’t be results-oriented unless you’ve got RockStars achieving great results for great clients. Our team is comprised of the industry’s most creative, insightful and resourceful professionals, with more than 60 years of combined experience. Meet our team of RockStars:
Miguel Piedra
Principal, Managing Partner
Creative visionary. Problem solver. Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist. With an outstanding record of success that includes being named to PRWeek magazine’s 2012 “Top 40 under 40 PR Executives,” Miguel is the “ROCK” in RockOrange.
Miguel’s world has no borders. Having lived and worked in some of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the world, including Hong Kong and Paris, his network spans the globe.
This trilingual lover of new cultures first showcased his marketing and communications muscle working for the world’s most famous mouse. During his nearly a decade working for Disney Parks and Resorts, Miguel successfully lead some of the company’s biggest media relations initiatives on three different continents, from opening new theme parks and launching new blockbuster attractions, to inspiring more than 1 million people into action.
As if that weren’t enough, Miguel was most recently chief communicator for Burger King Corporation and its network of over 13,000 restaurants in more than 80 countries. While at The Home of the WHOPPER®, he led all internal and external communications for the brand’s global turnaround strategy and managed more local, national and global crises than he can count on his abacus. This guy knows how to make things happen.
When he’s not running companies, Miguel and his wife can be found running after their five-year-old son, dabbling in photography and using his proclivity for the camera to see the world through different-colored lenses.
David Naranjo
Principal, Managing Partner
The “ORANGE” in RockOrange, David brings “freshly squeezed” ideas to global branding. He can spot a trend before it’s a trend, and his finger is always on the pulse of pop culture. That’s how you become Director of Media Relations at Sony Music Entertainment, where he was responsible for U.S. Hispanic and general market campaigns for music crossover royalty, including Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Shakira and Marc Anthony.
Most recently, David was at the helm of Estefan Enterprises’ marketing, strategic partnerships, public relations and global branding efforts. During his more than a dozen years with the Estefans, he launched many multi-platform campaigns for the company’s entertainment and hospitality divisions working with global partners including, Visa, AT&T, Univision, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Music and AARP. He also launched Emilio Estefan’s Picks, a curated entertainment collection at Target.
David began his career in broadcast journalism where he was known to secure some of the biggest celebrity one-on-ones in the business. A jetsetter and master multicultural marketer, he has relationships with influencers from all over the world.
But no matter how high he flies, his feet are always on the ground. David is passionate about giving back to the community, affording others a chance to follow their dreams. We’d call him a RockStar, except he’s a former opera student and can belt out an aria like nobody’s business.
Alix Salyers
Vice President, General Manager / Chicago
A corporate bohemian, Alix is an attorney turned retail executive and public relations strategist who now runs the RockOrange Chicago office. Just ask BURGER KING®, Purina, Abbott Laboratories or Indy Racing League for starters, where she was in charge of program development. And when it comes to crisis and brand management, Alix has a proven track record that could rival that of Olympic medalists.
When she’s not fighting the good fight for clients far and wide, Alix can be found exploring the community with her husband and two dogs. Speaking of man’s best friend, she’s also an expert in what she calls “puppy karma,” matching the Fidos of the world with their perfect owners, and vice-versa.
Gary Gerbino
Vice President, Lifestyle & Leisure
Whether in-house or as a consultant, Gary has specialized in delivering big ideas for top brands… and has the awards to show for it. It’s no wonder… she has worked with some of the most celebrated international culinary stars as a key member of the team behind the South Beach Wine & Food Festival for nearly a decade. Paulina also introduced restaurants and cookbooks for celebrity chefs Michelle Bernstein and Michael Schwartz, among others.
She also launched blockbuster films for Warner Bros., Sony and Pixar, establishing a rapport with some of the most important media and digital influencers, which she leverages to increase market value and visibility for clients.
